New research study
 

Linda Rozell-Shannon is doing a research study for her PhD and needs to know if there are any moms of babies with hemangiomas who had a placenta problem and also had pathology done on their placenta so that the pathology may be available for our medical research team to review. If anyone meets this criteria: 1) had a baby with a hemangioma; and 2) had a placenta issue; and 3) has the pathology still available on their placenta (probably at the hospital where the baby was born), please contact Linda at hvbf@aol.com


PS: If you were told you had a placenta problem your placenta was likely "examined" and that would mean it may still be available in a block of frozen tissue for further study. You may have to call your ob/gyn office to verify.

hi , i had bleeding and was given duphaston( a synthetic hormone similar to the naturally occurring sex hormone, progesterone)during my pregnancy. 2 of my freinds also took duphaston and their kids have hemangiomas also

My little boy was born 6 weeks premature in June 2004 weighing 3lbs. After having a scan it was found that there was very little flow from the placenta through the cord and he was delivered by emergency c-section. He then developed an hemangioma on the left eyebrow.

just to chime in here - i was dx'ed w/complete placenta previa, which ultimately became marginal. docs insisted i have a section and my son was delivered two weeks before his due date. he has an h just below his left eye which we're watching (he's 5 1/2 months old). i don't believe any examination of the placenta was done, though the nurse asked if i wanted it (LOL). i guess she thought i might like to bury it beneath a tree or make it into capsules or some such. finally got the ped to refer us to the vascular anomalies clinic at the local children's hospital so i should have some indication of our treatment options soon.

hi everyone im new here. but like all the rest of u i have a child that was born with a hemangioma hers is along her upper lp and through her nose. my daughter is now 3yrs old she has under went 8 laser surgerys and injectable steroids.theres been alot of improvement to her facial area but not enough to where kids arent afriad to play with her. next month she will under go co2 laser treatment and injectable steroids if the doctor doesnt see an improvement like she wants we will discuss more invasive surgery wish her luck bye for now.

I had placental abruption and my daughter was born 2.5 weeks early. She is 5 weeks old has 3 hemangiomas - one on the cheek under her eye about the size of a quarter, one on her upper right chest, and a tiny one on the back of her right thigh. I did not have pathology done on my placenta that I know of.

What a great site, just got on and found this, quite amazing that the two can be related. My son Ethan was born July 1, 2007 thus he is now 11 weeks old. He has a hemangioma on his left shoulder/back area which has now ulcerated. At birth my placenta would not come out even with traction/oxytocin thus we needed an ob-gyn to come and physically remove it with her hands (we had a midwife delivery at the hospital). Once removed all attending examined it and said they couldn't believe how mangled it was, came out in chunks, the attachment where the umbilical cord was itself was completely off center, it just didn't look like a healthy, "normal" placenta and chocked it up as that and they discarded it. They never sent it for pathology or anything. I am wondering if possibly this had something to do with his hemangioma now? What do you think?Sarah

I have a 3 grand daughters. The first one had no hemangiomas. The second one has two. One of them has shrank down almost smooth as her skin. They are both on her back. The third grandchild, now 10 weeks old has a hemangioma on her upper lip. Mostly on the inside but as it has gotten really big, you can see it on the outer side also. She has an appointment tomorrow to start steroid treatment. They are putting her under to give her the shots. Has anyone gone through this with their child? What can we expect? Will she be in much pain afterward? Thanks for any in-put..gangie

I have a blood clotting disorder and was on Lovenox to keep from clotting. (I had lost 3 previous pregnancies due to Subchorionic Hematomas.)

I don't know if they saved my placenta for testing. I can ask, but I doubt it, as I wasn't having any abnormalities from my Ultrasouds (I have those all recorded on DVD).

I think my daughter has a strawberry Hemangioma. We haven't seen a doctor yet.
