Has anyone had this problem?

I just wondering if anyone has had this problem with their AVM while they were pregnant? My was not really painfull until I started taking birth control and I stopped taking it as soon as I made the connection with the two. But I think it has caused permanent damage and now that I am pregnant it is getting even worse. Has anyone had a doctor tell them what they could do for this problem while being pregnant? The only thing I have been told to do so far is to take VICODON for the pain, but there has to be something else that can be done! I really dont feel safe taking pain medication through out my whole pregnancy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Vicodin did nothing for me when I was dealing with a flare up. I have yet to be pregnant so I cannot offer any advice from that point of view.

I would ask one of the experts, (Dr Rosen?) they may have some advice. I would try swimming that would probably help with other issues related to the pregnancy as well.

I have venous malformations in my right hand and arm...I have had three children. I stopped taking birth control pills as well before my first child was born b/c of the pain. After my first and second child, I used Depo-Provera (shot). Then I found out it had some bad side effects, so I have since used Implanon. Did not have any complications with Depo or Implanon. I was so scared about what meds to take during my pregnancies.

My daughter has an AVM in her hand. When she saw a specialist, she was told not to take any form of birth control as it could cause irreversible damage to her hand. She experiences more pain when she is menstruating. We were also told that if she ever becomes pregnant then she will have to be monitered carefully.

Hi I stopped taking the pill years ago as I noticed that it made my Venous Malformation more swollen and painful. when I mentioned this to the doc he looked at me like I was barking mad!! since then I have read that yes it can affect the malformation. I have a cavernous malformation (slow flow) across the right side of my back.

Mini-Pill

I use the Mini-Pill, "Errin" is the name of it. It has never caused me any trouble.

I also had a successful pregnancy. I did encounter some pain towards the end of my pregnancy. My doctor prescribed Tylenol with Codeine, which helped me sleep on the really bad nights, but I did not take it often. I mainly kept my foot elevated, and stayed out of the heat to keep the swelling down.

Hope that helps.
