4 Yr Old w/VM in Labia

My daughter turned 4 years old a couple weeks ago. She was born with a purple "birth mark" on her right labia. It basically covers the entire labia, causing it to look swollen and bumpy. She has complained about it hurting for the past year. It frequently swells and hardens. I finally got her diagnosed about 5 months ago at UCSF. She had a pelvic MRI that showed it to be localized. She has always had issues with yeast infections, but recently is also having issues with UTI, headaches, nose bleeds, and has vomited a few times these last couple months. I have talked with her regular doctor who says they are probably separate from her VM. UC San Fransisco has seen her 1 time to look at it 5 months ago and hasn't done anything since. On her fathers side, her grandfather and great uncle also had VM. I am worried and frustrated. I want her to get the treatment she needs, but really don't know what it is or where to go. She has complained about it hurting there for over a year now. She is currently on antibiotics for UTI and yeast infection. She also has these newer symptoms that make me fear she has another VM under the skin somewhere. Does anyone know or have similar symptoms as her or a VM in the labia that has received treatment? Thanks.

Hi and welcome!

I'm guessing that you're near California if you've been to UCSF? Please write to the Family Services Advocate through http://birthmark.org/experts.php and get Corinne to help you find someone appropriate to see.

Labial AVM

Hi, Shelby's mom, I hope your daughter has gotten treatment by now. I thought you would want to know that there are a couple of members of AVMsurvivors.org who have labial AVMs: http://www.avmsurvivors.org/main/search/search?q=labia

They see Sally Mitchell at Johns Hopkins, though I am sure there are other doctors who can help. Sometimes VMs respond very well to bleomycin injections; that may be a treatment you can discuss with your doctor. Best wishes for your daughter!
