PWS - foot & anke - our 2 month old daughter

2 Attachment(s)
Hello.......

Our daughter is 10 weeks old this week.

After about 14 days following her birth the Port Wine Stain (PWS) appeared on her entire foot and ankle. Pictures are attached.

I have read that PWSs are always present at birth (source: VBF Facts - About Vascular Birthmarks and Tumors) and hence this has created an uncertainty to whether it is a port wine stain. When the mark is pressed - it does fade marginally.

We are considering laser treatment as the likely way forward.

Does anyone know of any down-sides to treatment. We have been informed their is a risk of differing size feet and painful walking without laser treatment - hence we are tending towards treatment.

Thank you for all comments and suggestions.

My daughter has been diagnosed with a "port wine like" marking on her leg. Nothing showed up until she was 8 weeks old and it progressively got worse until she was one. She sees one of the top specialists in the world. We tried laser treatments twice with little change so we decided to wait on it until she is older.

Feel free to email me: katiegalvin02@yahoo.com.

My daughter is now 2 and we have not seen any change in her leg recently.

Congrats on your new baby girl!

We have a 17 month old with a PWS on his right leg from his hip down to his toes. For now we have decided against laser treatment for a couple of reasons. First, we are hesitant about general anesthesia at such a young age, and I have also read that laser treatment isn't as successful on the limbs.

For now we are taking the wait and see approach. So far we haven't noticed any changes in his PWS, but I am keeping a close eye on him!

Every case is different though, and had our son's PWS had been in a different location, or was darker we may have made a different decision.

Best of luck to you and your little one!
Sarah

Thank you Katie & Sarah for your thoughts. We (before my wife has read your responses) are thinking about taking an available appointment for laser treatment tomorrow (1st session) without anesthesia.

hi christopher... just wondering if your little one had a treatment and if so, how did it go?

Hi how was the treatment? I want to do some on my daughter but I am concerned about her part where she will need anesthesia and if she will be uncomfortable after treatments

Pws on ankle

Hello, my daughter also 10 weeks old and has a PWS on her ankle and we are considering laser treatment. Wondering if you have started treatment and how it is going?
