Somewhere online (I'll go google) there is a guide on training for a race, with a schedule so that you will know you are ready on the day. Hold on... need another tab.

My cousin was telling me about this over the summer. I'm sorry to say it's called "The Couch-to-5K." Also, I think it plans for two months, and you don't have that much time. Any case, I bet it would be a good guide to what goals you might have to work up to it.
