Thank you for sharing your story. I appreciate all the info I've received in the last few days. It has been a roller coaster and I know we have a long journey ahead of us.

We were able to get into Childrens Hospital this Thursday 2/11! I hope we can get some answers and make the right decisions for our baby. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

So glad to hear that you are able to get your daughter in sooner. I honestly believe that my daughters pain has gone down already. Today she was talking and smiling. It was so good to see. Please keep us updated on how the appt goes.

Default Update on ulceration

We took our daughter to Denver on Thursday for an appointment with Dr. Morelli. We were in and out of there in 1 hour! He used laser on her ulceration. She's still in pain from the ulceration, but it doesn't seem to look any worse. He was able to laser the part that didn't have a scab on it. It seems not as deep as it was. We're still giving her motrin about twice a day. Hopefully it will heal soon. Her hemangioma itself hasn't grown and isn't raised, so he felt laser was our best option. I'm relieved he didn't think a long term drug is right for her. He also said we shouldn't need the bactroban ointment because the wound didn't look infected. We're currently covering it with vaseline and taping non stick pads over it. I think at this point we did all we could. I'm praying it will heal soon!!!
PS-Can we update Dr. Morelli's contact info on this website? He's actually at the Children's Hospital in Denver.

So glad to hear that the appointment went well. I hope that the ulceration heals quickly and that your daughter is not in pain for much longer. Did he give you a time frame on how long it should take to heal completely?

He didn't give us a time frame for healing unfortunately. She seems to be in more pain today than yesterday. It seems like every two steps we take forward we take one backwards! I'll be calling the Dr.'s office tomorrow to see if we should be doing something more. It is so frustrating that there isn't one answer for ulcerated hemangiomas!! cspowers-did your baby's ulcer scab over? Our baby's has twice which provides pain relief, but both scabs came off eventually with the would still underneath. The tissue seems white, maybe indicating scar tissue?

On no...I'm sorry to hear that she is in pain again. I hope that the doctors have an answer for you.
No, my daughters ulcer has not scabbed over yet. It is still oozing some, so we are continuing with the metrogel (antibactirial gel). It looks kind of grayish. The ped derm said that as it heals it will look more gray than red. I will try to take another picture tonight so you can see what it looks like.

We saw him on Monday and he was very little help. He looked puzzled and suggested putting a cream called ASAP on it (which he said is safe for adults, and doesn't see why it wouldn't be for kids). I have not put anything on it for a week because the scab seems to prevent it from hurting. We've been keeping it clean with wound wash. Today part of the scab came off and it is hurting her. Do any of you have experience with this? I saw something online about possibly using POLYURETHANE film? Also, should we make the appointment 4 hours away with a specialist in Colorado? What about pulsed dye laser treatment? Thank you to anyone who can help!!
Hi, my name is Tasha and I have a three week old daughter who was born with an hemangioma on her left cheek and front part of her ear. When she was born is was completely flat. The first week of her life it had doubled in size. He ear is completely closed now. I just wanted to let you know that if you ever need anymore help from anymore doctors, I am taking my daughter to Cincinnatti Children's Hospital and they are so great there. They have an actual hemangioma and vascular malformation center for children. The children that go to that clinic are covered by a bunch of different drs like an oncologist, ent depending on the placement of the hemangioma, and a pediatrician. They are super nice and they also help families who have financial situations. I hope your daughter is doing better. Congratulations on your little one.
