Default Worried Grandfather

I have a wonderful new granddaughter!!! She is beautiful, healthy and one month old. We believe she has a PWS on the right side of her nose and upper lip. This is my daughter’s second child and she is rightfully concerned. We are trying to be of as much support as we can. We are thankful that she is in all other ways a beautiful and healthy little girl. We have an appointment in Denver with Dr. Morelli next week. Question….Can anyone give their opinion on his level of expertise? Should we get more than one opinion? We know that all will come out for the best but how do we help our daughter deal with this?

First, congrats on your new family member!!

I have yet to hear anything negative about Dr. Morelli... He has apparently been working in the vascular lesion field for many, many years.

Getting more than one opinion is up to you. There is another physician, Dr. Yakes, who is in Englewood and I know people on this board who have seen him as well. Sometimes, there is more than one treatment option and different doctors will have different opinions.

Helping your daughter? Hmmm. I think the best way is to try to attend the appointments with her. I know two sets of ears sometimes hear two different things! And it can be overwhelming for a mother to deal with any health issues that arise with a baby.

Keep us posted on your granddaughter's progress!

Congratulations on your new addition to your family! My daugter is 5 months old with a PWS on her face. The advice I can offer you is to let your daughter deal with this at her own pace. Just be there for her. At first, I could not allow anyone around me to even discuss it, because I was so emotional about it. It is still hard...people stare, but don't ask questions. I'm still going through a lot of emotions....Why me? Why her? Why this? I worry about my daughter's future in our society that is so caught up in the way one looks. I am thankful she is healthy and happy. My daughter had her first laser treatment at 4 months old. The other advice I can offer is research, research, research and ask a lot of questions. This website is a wonderful resource. I would be glad to talk with your daughter or help in any way. I'm still new at all of this too.

Take care,
Kim

Hi,

Congrats.

I am a 24 year old with a facial PWS/SWS.

Dr. Morelli was one of the first doctors in the Midwest to have a machine. I started seeing him 19 years ago. I saw him until a machine was available in Omaha Nebraska (closer to home). I saw Dr. morelli for almost 8 years. He is very educated in PWS and Sturge Weber Syndrome (which should be something you should look into for info just incase, but he can will be able to tell you if you should be worried about it or not).

Dr. Morelli is probably one of the best in Colorado. You are in good hands.

If you have any other questions just ask.

Hope this helps.

Hank

I knew Hank had seen Dr. Morelli and would chime in soon. If Hank says it's OK... well, your granddaughter will be in good hands.

Thanks, Hank!

(Hey... when are you gettin' married? Didn't I hear you were gettin' married?)

Well my wife, daughter, and son-in-law took Madison to see Dr. Morelli today and it turns out to be a Hemangioma and he lasered it. So I guess this good! My wife and I have been praying that it would turn out to be a superficial Hemangioma which it appears to be. So I guess I switch over to the Hemangioma forum. I thank you all for the input, prayers and concerns. I will keep everyone here up dated! Grandpa

WOW... yes, move on up to the hemangioma forum!!

Were you pleased with Dr. Morelli (it sounds like you were)? What is the prognosis?
