Smile Update On Daughters Heamangioma

i posted a couple of months ago about my daughters heamangioma and thought id update you on our progress so far..
she is now off of the steriods and has been to see a specialist in newcastle upon tyne (uk) who strongly recommended that surgery at this point is not an option as is would be a high risk operation and there would be complications( she could bleed to death) he was very stern and to the point....and has advised us to let it go down by its self..we are still awaiting for an appointment from birmingham childrens hospital (uk) to she what they think....
i just wondered those at what age do they start to go down and shrink my little girl is nearly 7 months
ive attached photos to show my daughters heamangioma feel free to have a look....

Absolutely send an email with photos to Dr. Waner. He makes trips to Europe several times a year! His contact information is on the site.
I have a friend who is traveling with her son to see Dr. Waner in NYC this month for a very similar h.
Robin.

Hi there,

If you send it all to contact@birthmark.org I will make sure it gets to Dr Waner, rather than using the web form, which really is only for physicians.

Thanks,

Missy

Dr. Waner can help! He often travels to Berlin to help children/adults.

I would also like to point you to the vb support group on msn. We have a member Jill and her daughter Aslynn. Aslynn's case was probably the most complex Dr. Waner has seen and NO other doctor would attempt to help her. She was dealing with heart failure issues because of the h. There are pictures of Aslynn now...she is 4 and doing very well. It is common for docs that don't have experience surgically removing hemangiomas to use the line "they'll bleed to death".... Dr. Waner and others know how to minimize blood loss! It can happen. He can give you the opinion. Feel free to email me and I can forward your baby's info and pictures directly to him.

Default respose to: update on daughters haemangioma

hi, My name is Sheryl and I live in the midlands in the uk.
I just found this site by a sheer miracle. I read your posting on your daughters progress, and i just had 2 respond to it!
I am 39yrs old and was born with a heamangioma on my left eye, nose and upper lip. It grew to about the size of your beautiful daughters birthmark and enclosed my eye completly encasing it, in what could only be described as a dark pink tennis ball. They opperated on mine in 1968 to try and save my eyesight and my eye . A good portion was removed at the time so it can be done with the right surgical equipment , if they could do it 39yrs ago they can help now and yes the risk of bleeds are extremely high and surgeons are very reluctant to tackle them. All i do know is that it posed a risk having it left unremoved due to it being knocked bumped or fell on in case of cuts.so its the same risk leaving them in a way as the surgery . I have attached a recent photo its about the best i have(well the only 1 i like). my children say its their favourite too.I have five children and have been married before and due to get married again soon . So contrary to some people we can and do live very normal lives, just like your stunning daughter will when she grows up. If it helps my surgery was done at Leicester Royal Infirmary, so they do opperate on patients in the uk .
hope this helps!!!
