Smile Tissue Expansion - Scar/bald spot from Hemangioma Surgeries

My daughter Riley has had seven surgeries to remove a large baseball size hemangioma on her scalp. Dr. Waner did all the surgery, beginning at one year old. The first three were all excisions, as the size of the hemangioma made it impossible to remove at once. The last four were all scar revisions, and we are left with a wide scar and a bald spot. On June 12th, we will head back to the OR for the insertion of a tissue expander. This will entail visits into the NY office 2x a week for six weeks to have silicone injected into the balloon type expander. I am wondering if any one else has had this procedure? I realize this is the last journey of a very long haul, but this will be a very long summer for her and me. Thank you so much.

It will be a long summer for you both, I'm sure. I have heard of people who have had this procedure and I'll see if I can catch up with them!

There is a member or two on the vb support group (msn) that have gone thru the tissue expander route.

Thank You, I am very stressed over the process, and any information would be greatly appreciated. I almost wish we could have started the process sooner, but I had to let her finish the nursery school year. I will check out the MSN VB support group as well. Thanks!
