Stork Bites, Angel Kisses, Salmon Patches

i had my first baby, a girl, 2 months ago. when she was born she had marks around her eyes, on her eyebrows, and on both sides of her upper lip. the doctor said they were stork bites and that they would fade within one year and by 3 years they should be completely faded. instead, they have spread they are now around both her eyes, eyebrowns, on both temples, her forehead, on top of her head, back of her neck, a few on her belly and on her chin. so we went to see another doctor and he said they were portwine stains, he also said they would fade within a year and could take up to 3-4 years to fade completely. then i went home and researched portwine stains and apparently those dont fade in time, and i really got myself worried reading about portwine stains and thankfully i stumbled upon this website and saw some pictures of other peoples babies who had bad stork bites. it made me feel better and i'm hoping my baby doesn't have any permanent birth marks. i'll add a picture and if anyone can help me and let me know if it looks like anything their babies have had and if it will fade that would be super. we have another appointmen with a doctor in 10 days and i will definately be asking some questions but i have been worried sick!! (k i dont know how to add a picture.. if someone can help me with that i'll post one!!)

Mgsgraff congrats on your baby girl!! Many of us parents understand your worry. Just know their are lots of option, which for me at least brought some relief that I had choices. This forum also has been helpful in relieving some of my anxiety. Not sure where you live but their are many expert doctors as well.

Hello everyone! We just had a beautiful baby girl 6 weeks ago and she was born with a stork bite on the back of her neck and angel kisses between her eyes, on her left eye and on the right side of her nose and upper lip. I had no idea about these vascular markings and was very distraught at first. I am relieved to know that they should fade with time or lasers can be used. Also, I am thankful that you all have posted pictures because our daughter's look very similar and I could not find other pictures online. Of the before and after pictures posted, have lasers been used or is the fading just a result of time? And, kdtanker or anyone, are there recent photos that you would not mind posting? They really help ease my mind. Thank you so much!!!

Do you have a photo you could post? Early on, it's difficult to tell the difference between different types of birthmarks.

Hi Brookedorris, congratulations on the birth of your beautiful baby girl. Your daughters stork marks/angel kisses/salmon patches do look similar to my sons although I would say my son's were slightly more extensive as they covered the whole of his nose and upper lip, as well as his forehead and both eyelids as you can see in his pic at a day old. I hope it reassures you to know the fading has occured without any laser treatment or any other type of treatment what-so-ever. Just time and patience He is 16 months old now and his marks continue to fade, most of the time they are hardly visible to me and I expect to other people (who aren't his Mum!) they are invisible! They still show up when he cries, gets too hot, too cold, is ill or teething. I've heard this can be the case even into adulthood but it is really not a problem at all and they soon fade again. My DD was born with a hemangioma on her hand, which the OBGYN and multiple pediatricians at the hospital said was a port wine stain, and that it would not go away. Then, her pediatrician that we chose to be her doctor said it was a port wine stain that would fade over time, very confusing. Then, I found VBF. What peace of mind this amazing group has provided.

We got in touch with Dr Stuart Nelson, a port wine stain expert, who told us it was most likely a hemangioma. We subsequently got a referral from our ped to see a pediatric dermatologist who specializes in vascular birthmarks. Fortunately for DD, her hand H is superficial, and we have opted to do "watch and wait". I've posted photos in another thread... "hemangioma on hand".

She is a year old now, and I am still happy with our decision to watch and wait (of course had her hemangioma been different in its condition, then we would have pursued other options). It continues to fade, although still visible, and her hand is a little puffier than the other side. No issues with function/use of the hand and we've never had any ulcerations.
