Upper Arm PWS

My daughter (18 months) has an upper arm PWS, about 1 by 2 inches, which is noticeable when wearing a T shirt. Our first dermatologist initially said that this site doesn't normally respond very well to laser, then changed her mind in the middle of the consult, and said that "come to think of it they do respond reasonable well". We will be seeing another dermatologist in a weeks time for another opinion. Candela V beam pulse dye laser was the laser she recommended. Does anyone have experience with treatment in this area, and success rates, before we subject our daughter to treatment.

I have used the V-Beam pulse dye laser and I highly recommend it. I am 21 years old and it is the third pulse dye laser I have used and I would have to say hurts the least, did not swell or leave any marks after the treatment. This machine is safe for infants and does not scare. From a older laser that I have used it feels like takeing a rubber band and snap yourself with it. With this laser it does not even hurt that bad because of the liquid mist instead of a direct beam. Since your daughters PWS is so small it will probably only take three to five zaps in less then a minute. It might take a couple of trips to the doctor to get her mark completely removed but it is worth it. It ussually takes about two months to heal completely but depending on where the doctor sets the voltage it will probably take less time. I have all my marks on my face and head and it is more of a sinitive area then the arm so your daughter is lucky.

It is my understanding that upper arms do well. With that said all pws are individual and many factors affect treatment/results. It is said the earlier one begins laser tx in infancy the better the overall outcome. It would be wise to seek a physician that is an expert with lasering children's pws. I have said it over and over to others....Just because a doc owns or has access to a laser does not make them experienced, knowledgable or skilled enough to treat pws or other vascular lesions. Finding a good specialist will be the key.

The vbeam is a good choice for treating children's pws. It is just one brand an model of the pdl. Cynosure makes a good pdl laser as well.

my daughter had vbeam treatment, and she had darkening of the test area(4x6inch area treated). this was an unusual response, but it happened, and she is very unhappy about it. now, in addition to pws, she has an index card size darker area on her torso...just be sure to do a small test spot first!
