Default questions about incisions/technique to ask of dr.

Hello
for all of you who had surgeries done on hem. What questions did you ask your surgeon beforehand My little girl has a compound hem on her hairline that is raised and about the size of a cherry. I've only been to one specialist who suggested doing a "purse string" technique to minimize the scar....anyone know about this method vs. another? She said we might need to do another surgery later if the scar was too obvious. I haven't made the decision to do surgery but if I do I only want to do it once not twice. I sent Dr. Levitin photos and he suggested a small incision more in the hairline and that the purse string technique tends to bulge out a bit for the scar. I would welcome any thoughts about this

I left this alone because I thought some parent would come along and answer it. I have no idea on the answer to this... did you ever find the info you were looking for on this?

i commented on a more recent post you made...but since my daughter had the same surgery, here's what i can tell you. first, we had dr. waner do the surgery, and honestly figured he would pick the best method. he explained a couple possibilities, but ultimately it depended on how much good skin there was to work with and he didn't know that until he started. but...basically, what he ended up doing was just cutting an ellipse shape around the whole H (she had a cherry too...big!) and excising the whole thing (i know because i asked to see a picture they took with their cell phone once it was removed...and there was the whole H, all by itself, weird to see it not attached to my daughter's face!!). her scar 7 months later is a very faint white line, BUT, at the two ends, the skin is a bit pinched up. because he had to stretch the skin more in the middle to close, and obviously less so at the ends. it may never be perfect, but it has improved since the first month, and no one but we would ever notice.

if you want to see more pictures or ask any more questions (it's rare that i come on here now that her H is gone), since it's a similar H, please email me claremclellan at gmail.com
