Default Port Wine Stain On Leg?

My Daughter is 8 months Old. She has a Port Wine Stain on her left side of leg. It starts from her private part to the bottom of her leg. She had a MRI done when she was 3 months old and all they told me was that her left leg might get a lil bigger then her right leg. But when I went to her regular doctor she noticed that it was the other way around. I worry now so much cause she is starting to walk and if she cuts her leg on something . I need help on what to do. I'm a a new mother and confused.

Hello,

I would really encourage you to see a specialist with a lot of experience with PWS/vascular birthmarks. Where are you located and maybe I can help recommend someone closest to you that we know has the experience to help you.

There are options available to her for treatment. Her leg growth and lack of needs to be evaluated.

Also, I manage a super support group on msn (many members are from this site as well)...you might want to ck us out. Also ck out www.birthmarks.com
the support group site is http://groups.msn.com/vascularbirthm..._whatsnew.msnw

Asia 03

Welcome to the support group!

My daughter is 15 and has just about the same issues with her birthmark and leg/foot size.

Write me and I'll answer any questions that I can.

My email is: msearp9@jam.rr.com

I don't read the board here everyday, so I wouldn't want you to think I was not responding.

Dear Asia O3, Your daughter's birthmark sounds similar to mine. Mine covers the entire front left leg. At 37, my legs are the same size. I believe my right leg is stronger than my left, but that may be because I favor my right side in general. My right foot is also 1/2 inch shoe size larger than the left, but that's also fairly average.

If you have questions, I'll check back for a post. I'm happy to help where I can. I wish you and your daughter the best!

Take care,
Beth

I'm 36 and my left leg is covered. I'm also married and have 3 kids (none of whom have any birthmarks). Although it is sometimes annoying to deal with strangers ( their questions and stares) my birthmark is unique and a special part of me. I think I would not be myself if it was somehow removed or lightened.
My left leg is wider around and the foot is a touch bigger. The area covered with the birthmark falls asleep (pins and needles) frequently, gets cold faster, has less hair and is more sensitive to pain but otherwise is fine.

Hi, I'm a new member from Australia, I am a 38 year old women with 4 kids (none of which have birthmarks), my left leg is covered from top of bottom to toes but only the back of the leg, my right leg also has birthmarks but not so bad. both legs are the same size but I have trouble with varicose veins which I had taken out 2 years ago with no problems. I just had laser treatment yesterday and had 1698 pulses, to my lower legs below my knees. But have started having treatment to the top part of my legs because I'm starting to come out in small red dots in my birth mark, the doctor said this happens as you get older, but it has'nt happened where I've been lasered. I didn't know this could happen and wished I had started laser up top of my legs to prevent this.

Regards
Ann from Australia

Default same boat...

I too have a PWS that covers 1 side of my left leg. Doctors told me years ago that I had a extra artery that ran down my leg causing my Vericous veins at such a young age. I've had 2 surgeries to remomve some of them, but other than that it's fine.

I have a 15 year old with portwine birthmark on 60% of her body. Legs and torso. She has had laser treatments since she was 1 month old. This has helped lighten the birthmark. She does have vein issues now. The laser m.d. has done some vein shrinking in her legs. She handles this very well and her legs are the same size. One leg is totally covered and this foot is 1 size larger than the other. I have also noticed the birthmark to be more visable when she is cold or ill. Keep in mind kids handle this better than we parents do!

It may be nothing except a birthmark, but I'd get her checked out for Klippel-Trenauney.
